Persepolis

I am not surprised at all after reading the first part of Persepolis. There was information and actions that took place that I wouldn't have known if I did not read the book. I think that as Americans we see the middle east as a terrible and horrible part of the world. We assume people over there are out to act in violent acts. Everyone stereotypes them as terroists from what prevously happened to our soceity. Because of this middle eastern people are looked down on. Additionally, because their cultural is very male dominate that people in the US see them as very judging of our living so we tend to stereotype them as very rude and pushy people.
Because their is such a different look at middle eastern people after 9/11 it is hard to not believe what people say about them and their culture. Everyone will always stereotype them as violent and terroists like because what previously happened to us. Because of all incidents that have happened to the US it has changed my view as well as societies view on middle eastern people. However, by reading this book they were going through problems and struggles in their country that really made me simpathetic to their lifestyle. After reading this first part of the book I no longer have a strict negative attitude toward middle eastern people because even though I cannot relate it is understandable and hard to put myself in the situation that many of them had to overcome.
